Lisbon

By the end of the 60’s, the São Mamede Gallery opened its doors in Lisbon. It was located near Largo do Rato in Escola Politécnica Street, close to the area of Principe Real. The gallery was set in a typical Pombalino building and it has remained there ever since.

The Gallery has always been exclusively focused on the Portuguese modernism and contemporary movements, although it has had occasional exhibitions of foreign artists. The variety of art exhibited in the gallery owes its great quality and intensity not only to a group of “classic” artists who have always been involved in the gallery (such as Areal, Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas and Júlio), but also (and especially) to its new and talented artists.

In 2005 the gallery expanded to Oporto, and in 2007 it enlarged its facilities in Lisbon, growing back to its original size, which made São Mamede’s name so famous.
