Manuela Castro Martins

Born in 1964 in Alcobaça, grew up in Douro, and in 1979 goes to live and study law in Oporto. The artist worked for a few years as a lawyer at the same time that she was creating some glass pieces until she decided to take on artwork as profession in 2001. Since then, she has created and developed several pieces for the hotel industry for spaces such as The Ritz Four Seasons Hotel in Lisbon and Four Seasons Hotel de Berges in Switzerland.

The International Cycle Concerts in Porto, Portugal, in 2006, the participation in FITEI, International Festival of Iberian Expression, in Porto, in 2006. Also of their authorship are trophies of participation in the International Cycle Concerts "Porto, City of Organs "and a conference" Matiné Pensante 2013 "held in Brussels.

The artist already presented her works, not only in Portugal, but also through the United States, Denmark, France and Germany, highlighting the exhibitions: "Renda em Vidro II" at the Sculptor José Rodrigues Foundation in Oporto in 2012; Galerie D'Art Hotel Vista Palace in France in 2014; Bullseye Gallery, Portland, USA, Bullseye Bay Area Resource Center, USA, in 2014; Pittsburgh Glass Center, USA, and Bellevue Arts Museum in Washington, USA, in 2015; "À espera de Ulisses", on the Contemporary Art of the Glass Museum in Marinha Grande, in 2016; "European Glass Context 2016 - Curated", Bortnholm Biennial Art Museum, Gudhjem in Denmark; "Rosaceas" at the Cultural Center of Cascais, Dom Luís Foundation in 2016 and finally "Neuer Verbungen 2016" at the Glasmuseum Alter Hof Herding in Germany in 2017. Manuela Castro Martins is present in the collection of the Glasmuseum Alter Hof Herd in Germany and in the nucleus of contemporary art of the Glass Museum of Marinha Grande and has already had publications in Oliver Dupon's "Encore! - New Artisans", in the annual publication of the New Glass Review 36 Museum Of Corning Glass in New York, and also in Neues Glas No. 3 of 2016, a German reference magazine on contemporary European glass.

In 2014 won the Design Award at Emerge, Glass Biennial of Bullseye, Portland, USA.
